Allen County Rides Strong in the 2016 National Bike Challenge

nbc-2016-logoAllen County was once again the top local challenge in Kansas during the 2016 National Bike Challenge, with 128 riders logging 21,888 miles from May through September.

Bike Allen County ranked #6 in the nation, and in Kansas, we beat out Bicyclists of Central Kansas (#12),Livewell Lawrence (#15), Kaw Valley Bicycle Club (#20), Bike Walk Wichita (#40), and Healthy Harvey Coalition(#51).

We had three communities participate in this year’s Challenge, with Iola ranked #187 in the nation (97 riders and 16549 miles), Humboldt #982 in the nation (27 riders and 4342 miles), and LaHarpe at #2555 in the nation (1 rider, 997 miles). Moran had three people signed up, but they did not log any miles. Elsmore, Gas, and Savonburg had no participants.

Our top individual riders were Randy Rasa, Elizabeth Cox, Jay Kretzmeier, Sandy Zornes, and Terry Zornes.

In the Prairie Spirit Trail Challenge, a competition between all the communities along the Prairie Spirit Trail and Southwind Rail Trail corridor, Iola was #1 and Humboldt was #2. Yay Allen County!
