In addition to the excellent trails in Allen County, there are plenty of other trails to ride within a short trip in every direction:

Bourbon County

  • Gunn Park Trails — About 6 miles of mountain biking trails. Mostly wooded, non-technical trails with relatively easy climbs and descents. Fort Scott.
  • Kansas Rocks Recreational Park — A trail system near Mapleton that welcomes 4 Wheel Drive, Mountain Bikes, Hikers, and UTVs. Has primitive camping facilities as well as RV parking. There is a daily usage fee.

Coffey County

  • Hickory Creek Trail — About 20 miles of multi-use trail for hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers at John Redmond Reservoir

Crawford County

  • 23rd Street Bike Park — Offers several miles of single track mountain biking trails, a mountain biking skills area, a pump track, and dirt jump area. 600 Blk. E. 23rd in Pittsburg.
  • Crawford State Park — Four trails within the park, one of which is available for mountain biking. Located near Farlington and Girard.
  • Watco Trail — A paved half-mile trail beginning at 11th & Broadway in Pittsburg.
  • Wilderness Park — Over four miles of trails travel a diverse natural environment. A major portion of the trail system is ADA-accessible along with more challenging trails that rise above on ridges created by open pit mining. 907 W. McKay in Frontenac.

Labette County

Montgomery County

  • Elk City State Park — A nationally-recognized trails system including the Eagle Rock Mountain Bike Trail (4 miles) and the South Squaw Bike Trail (3.3 miles). Located northwest of Independence.

Neosho County

  • Katy Hike/Bike Trail — A 1.75-mile trail that follows a portion of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad route. Chanute.
  • Santa Fe Hike/Bike Path — A 3-mile paved path connects Santa Fe Park to the Martin Johnson Airport. Chanute.
  • Western Sky Trail — A rail-to-trail project under development between Chanute and Fredonia. Will be about 19 miles in length, with a crushed limestone surface.

Osage County

  • Melvern Riverfront Park and Trails — Features several miles of trails along the Marais des Cygnes River. Includes both a crushed limestone multiuse trailand natural-surface singletrack for mountain biking. Melvern.

Wilson County

  • South Mound Trail — A short trail under development on South Mound in Fredonia.
  • Western Sky Trail — A rail-to-trail project under development between Chanute and Fredonia. Will be about 19 miles in length, with a crushed limestone surface.

Woodson County

  • Cross Timbers State Park — About 17 miles of trails open for hiking, backpacking and biking.
  • Fall River State Park — About 6.5 miles of trails open for hiking, walking and biking. All trails are of moderate difficulty.
  • Badger Creek Mountain Bike Trail — Several miles of singletrack at the northeastern corner of Fall River Lake, entirely within a dense oak forest with car to house sized rocks along the ridges.
