On Monday evening, the Iola City Council passed a Complete Streets Policy, becoming the first Allen County community, and the first small rural town in Kansas, to embrace the Complete Streets precepts of designing a community’s built environment to provide appropriate facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and persons of all abilities while promoting safe operation on the roadway for all users.
The council’s adoption of the Complete Streets Policy formalizes an internal policy that Iola has been following for some time, of improving sidewalks, curb cuts, and crosswalks, and making streets safer for bicyclists.
It is hoped that other Allen County communities will follow suit and adopt Complete Streets Policies of their own!
