Information courtesy of the City of Iola:
It is once again time for the annual chip seal street maintenance project. This year the street department will chip seal the northwest portion of the city. This area is best described as an area west of Cottonwood Street and north of U.S. Highway 54.
A two or three week period for this project is anticipated. If you should have any questions or concerns please call the City Administration Office at 620-365-4900.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding in getting this work done.
Riding on freshly chip-sealed streets can be both messy, due to the oil, and dangerous, due to the loose gravel that is overlaid on the fresh oil.
After a few months, the maintenance will result will be a nice surface, but in the meantime, it can be treacherous, so take care. Avoid fresh oil/rock if possible, and if not possible, ride slowly and take special care when stopping or making turns.
