King of Trails Bridge Grand Opening May 5th

The new Washington Avenue bike-ped bridge over Elm Creek, known as the “King of Trails Bridge”, will have its official ribbon-cutting on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00pm. We invite you to join us as we celebrate this connection from Iola, Kansas to the Lehigh Portland Trails.

There will be bike helmet giveaways, healthy snacks, and lots and lots of celebrating. Bring your bike or put on your walking shoes to take advantage of this new connection.

The King of Trails Bridge has been made possible through Thrive Allen County, the City of Iola, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, the Kansas Health Foundation, the Sunflower Foundation, PeopleForBikes, and New Belgium Brewing, as well as a federal Recreational Trails Program grant administered by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.

The bridge is named in honor of the historical King of Trails Highway which once crossed this span, as well as Allen County’s growing reputation as the ‘King of Trails‘.
